In 2017 there were 61,550 number of gun-related incidents in the United States. Among those 61,550, children and teens from the ages of 0-17 were the people who were affected the most by gun violence. 3,968 incidents to be exact, the highest total in the last 5 years in the country. Gun violence is an important issue because innocent people are losing their lives every day. Many of them are at the wrong place at the wrong time. Families must witness their loved ones be buried because of gun violence. Watching a loved one be buried could cause someone to commit suicide. It could also lead to mental health issues. They would do good things for all people and make this country safer. Why should you care? Everyday people should care because a teenager should not be able to own an assault rifle. Science has proven that teenagers make bad decisions when given too much power. That is why you must wait till 21 to drink. All countries deal with some type of gun violence. Many countries have created stricter gun laws and they have worked. However, the problem with America is that citizens can access high powered guns easily. The solution for our country is to not take away guns but to enforce stricter laws. The Federal Government should raise the age to purchase assault rifles to 21. By raising the age limit it would get guns out of teenager’s hands. The Federal Government should also increase the punishment to people who do not have guns registered. The outcome of this would discourage people from carry unregistered guns. The last thing that needs to change is more background checks to purchase guns. Doing this would stop mentally ill people from buying guns. Accomplishing this goal of getting stricter gun laws may not be easy to achieve, but things that are worth doing are often not
