We, as Americans are surrounded by this trending issue which results in numerous deaths each year in the United States. We have sets of laws known as Gun Control that control the possession, sales, or manufacture of weapons by civilians. Even though we have these laws in today's society, you can still walk into a store and walk out with a semi-automatic gun in your hand in mere minutes, in certain parts of the US. Failing the background check doesn’t mean much when criminals are still acquiring these weapons in many different illegal ways by stealing, purchasing a firearm at a gun show by an arm trafficker, or private sales. The United States of America is not the only country with this issue but it happens frequently here than anywhere else.

The United States death rate due to firearms in the U.S. is nearly double the global average, according to the Global Health Data Exchange. Gun Violence results in mass shootings such as the most recent one in October. On that night of October 1, 2017 a man opened fire on civilians viewing a concert with their families, which led to 59 deaths including the shooter and more than 500 injuries. On a yearly basis, two-thirds of the more than 33,000 gun deaths that take place in the U.S. every year are suicides. While others might think that keeping a handgun in their home for safety is the best option is incorrect. There is a good amount evidence showing that keeping a weapon in a home, makes it much less safer not only to you but also your household. Firearms in homes are far more likely to be used to wound or kill residents of the home, their families, friends or neighbors than any intruder. The public school system in every state should offer a program such as Gun Violence Prevention and inform about this social issue. Children in the United States should not only know the curriculum offered by the schools but ways to help build this
