Gun control is defined by Franklin E. Zimring as the strengthening of laws, rules and regulations on the ownership and purchase of of firearms in an effort to fight violent crimes (440). Due to the regularity of mass shootings in America, gun control laws and regulations should be created and maintained to provide a safe community for all people and citizens living in the United States.

There are approximately 20,000 gun control laws that are either under enforced or selectively enforced that have been enacted since the early 1900s. Some of these laws are the Brady Bill, the 1994 ban, the 1968 gun control act, and the second amendment, notorious for causing the most confusion about whether or not gun control laws are actually legal.
