Imagine you are at home late at night and a robber bursts into your home. You are terribly frightened but you know what to do. You run into your or your parents room and grab the gun from inside their nightstand. You run back out and successfully apprehend the robber and allow the police to arrest him. This is in a world where a family is not impeached by gun control laws and can lawfully own a gun for self-defense. In our world, this scenario could happen to you, just without the gun. This action of taking away people’s rights to “bear arms” or own guns gives people a sense of insecurity and deters people from purchasing a weapon for self-defense. Nelson Lund, JD, PhD, Professor at George Mason University School of Law, stated, "The right to self-defense and to the means of defending oneself is a basic natural right that grows out of the right to life" and "many [gun control laws] interfere with the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves against violent criminals." Being able to defend ourselves has been embedded into American history and culture throughout multiple wars. Guns were then mostly used for self defense and protection. Guns have been used to hunt, to feed our families. Gun laws take away this tradition and this right. The Second Amendment says “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” while most gun laws take away a right to bear arms. If this Amendment is infringed, then what will happen to the other Amendments? The government may get even more control and start taking away other rights. Many -(add more)- The McDonald v.
