Even if the schools are still white-majority, exposure to other students of minorities in the classroom setting is beneficial. The white students will be able to learn from the others and their backgrounds. Information about different cultures and thoughts regarding medicine and such, will provide useful insight when the provider is practicing. The providers will be at an advantage because they have real life experience with people of different backgrounds, not just watching a cultural competency video before they start with an employer. While in school, the institution should address health care disparities and encourage the students to practice in rural areas and provide for minority people. Native American reservations are typically in a rural area with the nearest cities that are miles away. Since people who live on the reservations are typically considered poor, transportation is difficult. If more Asian American providers were available, there would be an increase in routine exams. When routine exams are performed, early detection is more likely and this can save the patient’s life. If more lives are saved, the rate of death caused by cancer will decrease. This could save a lot of time and ad grief on the provider and patient’s end. Along with the infant mortality rate, the rate of other health care concerns will go down as well. Diabetes, heart disease, cancer and even obesity will go down. People in minority groups are large contributors to the disappointing health rates but if they see a provider more, the rates will decrease. This all circles back to the fact that if the provider has a similar background, the relationships between the patients and providers will be stronger. When that happens, the patients will take their health a bit more
