Although the US was only involved in World War One for less than a year, there were many valid reasons for why they should have entered the war. The reasons for why the United States should have entered the war vary among all three aspects, politically, economically, and socially. There were many beneficial outcomes from the United States becoming involved in the war. Among the political aspect was the interception of the Zimmerman note. The Zimmerman note was a note written by Germany asking Mexico to enter the war against the United States. The Zimmerman note was written around the time that Americans were trying to capture Francisco “Pancho” Villa while conducting an expedition. I believe Germany may have written the note when they caught on to the fact that Mexico had denied the United States’ incursion into Mexico, which caused some conflict between the US and Mexico. Among these changes were women’s fashion, urbanization, civil rights protests, and even feminism. Women’s fashion changed because it was no longer abnormal to see a woman wearing trousers rather than a dress. Makeup also became very popular. Also, since skirts and dresses now came up six to ten inches off the ground, female grooming such as leg shaving became standard. Also, after the war, a census showed that a majority of Americans were living in cities rather than the country, so urbanization became a big thing. Feminism also rose after the war. Feminism included protests for women’s suffrage, education rights, better working conditions, and the removal of gender double standards. Another good social effect of the war was that African Americans were then allowed to serve in the military. These social benefits were a result of World War I, which is why the United States was right to
