In the year 1917, the United States abandoned its neutrality and entered World War I on the side of their allies. There were a few reasons why the United States gave up the policy of neutrality when entering WWI. Some of the main causes had to do with threats from the Germans. The United States had many reasons to abandon its neutrality and choose to go to war on the side of their allies. At the time, it was uncommon for a country to stay neutral and help out other countries. It was believed that “only a peace between equals could last”.
