Throughout this 2015-2016 academic school year, I have observed significant growth in my ability to write and understand the fundamentals of the English language. This course has expanded my knowledge of rhetorical devices and honed my writing skills and vocabulary. I feel as though I have evident progress since the Midyear portfolio, but work can always be done to ensure my success as a writer.

In my midyear portfolio, the main goals I had set for myself were to improve structure and organization, locating the major infirmities, and keeping my essay concise and on topic. There has been significant progress towards these goals since the middle of December but especially on my structure and organization. My desire to learn about English …show more content…

This essay showed progress toward my goal of improving my essay structure and organization as well as remaining on topic throughout the essay. My essay flowed well from one aspect to another which showed my improvements from my previous essays by using transitions such as “Naturally” and “Subconsciously” to connect my points. I chose this piece because it required me to be very detailed and unique in the topic I chose and I was challenged by the demands of having such an important writing prompt that could affect my future. I also believed that in this essay I had a well formed thesis which read “This experience also allowed me to gain the traits of adulthood and transition into the woman I was destined to be, but not without it’s pitfalls.” This thesis gave the main point of the essay and also provided a small insight into what my essay would be about which shows the improvement in my thesis writing and because of this I am able to see growth as compared to my essays from the beginning of the
