One major problem the United States faces today is obesity. There are many children and adults across the country that deal with obesity, and that number is continuing to grow. Many factors contribute to why obesity has become a big problem over the last couple of decades. Reasons for obesity are cheap fatty food versus expensive healthy food, increase in technology, and laziness of the average person contribute to the country’s problem that needs to be fixed so the number of large people does not grow and become more deadly. Fatty foods can become a major part of one’s diet, because it is so cheap, therefore people prefer that over expensive, organic food. When people are choosing to eat unhealthy foods over healthy foods it could lead to serious diseases such as diabetes., and in Jane Rollin’s article, "Diabesity: The Obesity-Diabetes Epidemic That Threatens America-And What We Must Do to Stop It." she explains, “The number of overweight children in the United States has tripled since 1970. Given such statistics, it is not surprising that experts estimate that diabetes will develop during the lifetime of 1 of every 3 children born in 2000.” (79). Household income contributes to the large obesity rates in these ethnic groups, with many Hispanics immigrating from Mexico and Central America, these people are willing to work for less money than the average citizen.
