The early ages of the cold war was a sense of standing against tyranny and communism as well as fighting capitalism. 1600 scientists were recruited to the newly formed National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from the Nazi government lead by Adolf Hitler. This all was called Operation Paperclip. A huge person in this large movement was Wernher Von Braun, and this Operation started NASA at it’s very humble beginnings at the end of WWII. Operation Paperclip enlisted key people that would start the space program that would win the space race for the United States of America. 1600 scientists were enlisted for this task of the Space race, a sub “war” of the Cold War. The first few scientists that were enlisted to NASA were brought over by Wernher Von Braun. Originally there were only 450 which the numbers grew once more scientists were found once the allied forces had control of West Germany. Von Braun worked in Nazi Germany under the tyranny government lead by Adolf Hitler for along time and invented the V2 rocket which was used as destruction against Britain. He had very good ideas in rocket science such as the Vengeance 2 (v2) and the A1 rocket. Towards the end of WWII Hitler requested to use the V2 rocket against Britain as a war missile. The V2 rocket could carry 1,000 tons of warhead projectiles. The damage could destroy anything up to a 3 mile radius. Von Braun said no to the request, and Hitler released him and his 450 coworkers. Von Braun and his crew joined the United States after the release. In America he worked to build the Saturn V rocket which would carry the Apollo 11 crew to the moon and every Apollo mission to follow.
