The Effect of Optimism on Cardiovascular Health Optimism and the beneficial effect it has when related to improved cardiovascular health has been the subject of a many studies. In these studies, several aspects could be considered as exemplary desirable consequences of optimism that may result in enhancing the well-being of the cardiovascular system. According to recent research, optimism has been shown to increase the likelihood of living longer in cardiovascular patients (American Heart Association, 2013). Living a longer life should be everyone’s ultimate health goal, and of particular relevance here is the fact that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). In what ways might being optimistic ameliorate cardiovascular health and possibly increase longevity?
