Thank you, everyone, for attending this long overdue election process. There hasn’t been this many owners in one room since Bud Selig’s surprise birthday party 5 years ago. That evening was certainly one for the books. Unfortunately I’m not here to share funny stories from the past. I’m here to talk about a much more serious matter. I want to talk about one of the greatest players in the history of the MLB. I also want to talk about the most prestigious honor in the MLB. Cincinnati Reds legend Pete Rose, is the player, and the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame is the honor I want to talk about today. Rose has shown genuine regret, and has done everything in his power to earn forgiveness from the game he loves, and its fans. Which brings me to my third and final reason he deserves to be inducted in the Hall of Fame, which is: everyone deserves a second chance. All our lives we are taught to forgive people. It is a common message taught at home, church, school, and in sports. If someone truly regrets their actions, and asks for a second chance, they should be given one. It is a fact that Rose regrets his actions, and has done everything in his power to get a second chance. He has been quoted saying “If somebody is gracious enough to give me a second chance, I won’t need a third”, along with “I never gave up as a player, and I won’t give up as someone who want to go to the Hall of Fame, because it’s the ultimate goal for a baseball player or a football player or a basketball player.” (Pete Rose). As you can see Rose has suffered for long enough, and deserves our forgiveness. Playing baseball my whole life I know one thing for certain, it’s the ultimate game of failure, but it always gives you a second chance.
