America is viewed as the world’s leading economic country. In 2015 based on the U.S Census Bureau's 13.5% of Americans lived in poverty. Yet, they are not getting the attention they need. While it may feel personal to impoverish individually it’s a public issue that affects millions of Americans. Census Bureau’s 2015 an estimated 43.1 million Americans lived in poverty according to the official measure. “Half the jobs in the nation pay less than $34,000 a year, according to the Economic Policy Institute. A quarter pay below the poverty line for a family of four, less than $23,000 annually” (Edelman 2012). 43.1 million people are living without the ability to support themselves and more than half a million people are living without a home. Poverty affects all kinds of people, starting with children. From 43.1 million people living in poverty 15 million are children. Out of everyone living in poverty almost 35% are children. Although 13% out the United States doesn’t seen as much, no matter how small or large the number is it should get the attention it needs. Why not create more jobs or raise the wages because most of the families living under minimum wage are not making enough to hold two children and a home. The United States is not the country with the largest amount of necessitous families, but is one of the countries with the sources and the most money. Families that suffer from poverty are most likely to end up homeless once in the life
