When I began my journey in search for a secondary education that would fulfill my desires I did not know where to begin, but I did know one thing: I wanted to get out of state. I was ignorant and believed that I was too good for the state from which I was raised in; I wanted to leave everything behind and see what the world had to offer. I kept this mindset for months upon months until my worrying parents finally managed to coax me into looking within Illinois for my education--it is at this point where I would stumble upon Illinois State University. I had heard multiple friends express their interest in ISU many of whom would call dub it their dream school. By researching ISU further, all of my misconceptions about in-state schools were dispelled.
As I begin my college education, I want to continue doing my best in order to accomplish my goal of becoming a registered nurse. With the scholarship money I can have the peace of mind of solemnly focusing on college. Students who have to work to continue their education have trouble focusing on school and do not have the extra time to study or go to tutoring sessions. In many cases, having to work while attending college usually leads to failing or dropping the class due to extra stress and the idea of income. As well, this scholarship will give me more time to focus on my education and to continue my volunteer work helping the
The Folds of Honor “Higher Education Scholarship” means a lot to me because it will help me receive a higher education without overwhelming my family. Also, the honorable fallen and wounded Warriors, like my Dad, on my side inspiring me to achieve my long-term to help our brave
Speech for NJHS Induction Ceremony Good evening students, faculty, and family members! Thank you, Mrs. Reece and Principal King, for inviting me to this year’s National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony. Students, tonight we honor your achievements in the areas of Scholarship, Citizenship, Responsibility, Community Service, Character, and Leadership as we recognize and celebrate the choices, and at times the sacrifices, you have made. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The reward of a thing well done is to have done it."
I didn’t really feel as part of the team through most of this experience because I wasn’t competent to complete many tasks but one of the nurses did try to get me involved when things were under control. She suggested that I draw up 40ml of saline into 5ml syringes if I felt comfortable doing so. Under her supervision I completed the task successfully and even though I didn’t contribute a lot I still felt good about getting involved and then I felt more competent. According to Penderson and Sivonen (2012) it takes courage for student nurses to accept tasks that get them involved in patient care, even if it is something very simple. I felt like I had contributed to Katie’s care.
As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. My parents were born and raised in a small town in Mexico where the highest level of education they received was fifth grade. I have worked since I was 14 years old to support my parents with bills, and also saving for college and my own vehicle.
The world is still unknown to me and yet I still have questions to ask myself about my future. Life is filled with questions that don’t have an answer. If there is a question without an answer then it would feel like an answer without a question. Knowledge is an important aspect in my life because I want to seek answers to find out more on how the world works, like having a big picture on life as a functioning unit. This is also the reason why nursing is the field I want to major in.
You can imagine how life in the University is in a country like the United States of American. Sometimes the reality beats the expectations, including the professors, the fellow study, and the courses, it is something difficult to explain, because it is beyond our previous experiences, is so wonderful that fills us with hope and prepare us for a better future, for a better life as a health professional in the most developed country of America and the world. It is amazing and unrivaled what we are living and sometimes you do not know where to start writing a wonderful as I have lived all these months back story, especially for self is the protagonist and is cumbersome to write about our lives and our purposes, as well as our interaction with the professors and fellow students, but everything has a beginning and an end , and the world are constantly changing, so also we change our expectations and our thinking, and we trace a path to walk that it may seem long but at the
The essence of nursing is providing care all across the spectrum to anyone from anywhere in the world, taking into consideration their individualized cultural backgrounds, norms and practices with respects to the patient, beliefs causing no harm out of lack of education, and or due to intentional personal biases. The nursing profession is one of which touches many lives regardless of religious, political preferences and or social backgrounds. Nursing speaks caring and compassion which translates into love. With the advancement of medicine in broad, nursing science has evolved significantly and continues to transform. The compassion in the heart of a nurse goes far beyond the bedside.
This scholarship would be an incredible factor in helping me achieve my career goals. All my life, I knew I wanted a career in which I could help those in need. With my education and the career I’m going for, I can use my knowledge to help people who come to me at my place of work as well as the teenagers I am privileged to lead at my local church. My heart for serving and volunteering
In June 2014 my husband, my son and I left Cuba bound for Paraguay looking to improve our lives and our families, after spending a year there we decided to come to America because it is the country that can give you a best future for our son. We are very happy to be in this great country where one has the opportunity to achieve the goals proposed. We studied medicine in our country and we exercised until we left, as specialists in orthopedics and traumatology my husband and I as Ophthalmology. Now here we decided to study nursing to keep branch of medicine and at the same time we have to work to support our family and to pay for school. I think nursing is a career that will allow us to be useful to society and will give us many satisfactions in the future.
Most of all I want to fulfill the promise, I made to myself to give my mother a desirable future. After I receive my degree, I want to go back to Africa and promote education and entrepreneurship. I want to give those who are not fortunate enough to come to the United States the tools to forge their own futures like I was with education. This scholarship may seem minimal to an average person but it would be a catalyst for all the positive in my life and those around me in the future. Finally, I know that the great people out there who gave me this scholarship and opportunity truly believe in me and my abilities, and I do not want to disappoint
“Do small things with great love.” I find no better words to live by than this simple phrase spoken by Mother Teresa. As a profession, nursing must strive to uphold Mother Teresa’s call to spread love and compassion through all that we do. I believe that nursing is one of the most noble and gratifying professions. As nurses, we are called upon to complete a great deal of tasks, from inserting catheters to administering medications.
As I begin this Master’s program to further my career in Nursing Administration, I will reflect on what it means to me to be academically, emotionally and practically ready for the challenges and opportunities of being a student at Walden University. I will identify action steps I will need to complete to prepare myself before my first course. It has been over 20 years since I have been in a classroom setting, so this decision did not come lightly. Academically, I feel nervous but confident I will succeed.
As a child, I dreamed of acquiring a career in Nursing. I was always fascinated by the amount of respect that nurses received during my doctor visits throughout my childhood. There are many reasons why I chose to major in Nursing such as the ability to take care of someone, the money and benefits that the career offered, as well as job stability and flexibility. On of my main reasons for pursing Nursing is the ability to care for someone other than myself.
