The civil rights movement
The civil rights movement was a dramatic times in our lives that made a huge change to the way we embraced the constitution, it said that everyone deserves equal rights and those were never given to african americans. “Nearly 100 years after the emancipation proclamation, african americans in southern states still inhabited a starky unequal world”. African americans were discriminated by many people and they suffered for a long time. Not only did whites not like them it was a lot of people. It took years to get the level of unequalness down low. The Jim Crow law kept blacks away from public schools, bathrooms, theaters, trains and more. It was so important to our American history because of what it involved. This movement is very important because when children learn about it, it gives them a sense of what the US was like back then and how we treated african americans, then the kids can decide if that was wrong or not. “Important to the history of the united states and the world. It established that discrimination was unjust and would no longer be tolerated in the country”. Just the fact that kids need to learn is one part of why this movement was so important. Our political figures that took their part in this act, each did something amazing. They were so influential because they helped people get out of their funk. People like Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X and many more made a difference. The lives that were taken because of this discrimination is also important because they were determined to make a change. People in protests that were beaten and people that fought against the police or people that just tried to go to school. “Students in many cities endured taunts, arrests and even beatings” just to get an education.
