LEV Program
The initial interaction between law enforcement and crime victims plays a key role in a victim’s decision of whether or not to remain engaged with the criminal justices system. Law enforcement-based victim advocates bridge the gap between law enforcement and victims, helping victims navigate the complicated criminal justice system, while providing additional support and compassion. Regardless of personnel’s educational background or prior advocacy experience, the LEV Program highlights the importance of providing regular training to all victim services staff. This practice ensures that all victim services personnel are operating within a uniform framework and providing quality, consistent services across the board.
In recognition of the significant amount of time and resources needed to design a training program, the LEV Program has recently released Template Package V: Training. These customizable templates outline core victim services content and provide sample language for developing traini materials. Template Package V includes several customizable components, including training modules, supplemental handouts, an activity workbook, and trainer resources. The curriculum is specifically designed for adult learners and to appeal to multiple styles of learning (visual, auditory, kinesthetic. To maximize accessibility, it is recommended to provide print versions of the PowerPoints to victim services staff, along with additional resources and information, as appropriate. The interactive Activity Workbook supplements the presented lectures and allows advocates to demonstrate understanding of concepts by connecting prior knowledge and learned material

Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the training program, multiple trainers can be used for different modules. Trainers with varying backgrounds can provide a unique perspective on material relevant to their backgrounds. For example, an assistant prosecutor could facilitate the Criminal Justice Module, while an advocacy manager from a local community-based domestic violence agency could facilitate the Crisis Intervention with Victims module.
