The disease I chose to research, juvenile diabetes, is also known as type 1 diabetes. Although it can occur at any age, this type of diabetes mostly occurs in children and young adults. Type 1 diabetes affect the organs inside of your body such as the heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves, and blood vessels. Most fast food restaurants have a lot to do with why so many children are being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. All of the unhealthy food they serve you over a long period of time is not good for you and can bring your blood sugar levels up significantly. There are certain groups of people affected by diabetes more than others. 18.2 million People in the United States (6.3 percent of the population) have been diagnosed with diabetes. The exact cause of juvenile diabetes is unknown, but, genetics can play an important role. If your mom or dad has type 1 diabetes, you have a higher chance of getting diabetes versus someone who doesn’t have family with it. This is all because of genetics. But that’s not always the case. Some parents have diabetes their whole life but their kids never get it. Counting your carbohydrates, frequent blood sugar monitoring, eating healthy foods, exercising daily, and keeping a healthy weight are all ways you can help yourself stay healthy with type 1 diabetes, but there’s currently no cure for it. There is a treatment for it though. It’s called insulin, and you can either inject it into you to get the medicine in your body, or you can use a pump. Some advantages of taking insulin would be that it is easy to find and buy in stores, you get more freedom with food, and the injections are cheap to buy. Some disadvantages are painful injections, irritation, infections, and, some diabetics aren’t able to stay attached to a pump 24/7. Cure and treatment are two totally different words with a
