Young people all around the nation wait until they are eighteen years old to be able to do many “adult things”, but one. These privileges including voting, registering in the military, and being able to buy cigarettes. The one thing that these new adults can’t do is drink alcohol. They have wait until they are twenty-one to have this right. By voting, the people of America put the fate of their country in the hands of eighteen-year-old adults, but they can’t drink? I believe that if we are able to do all these different things at eighteen, then we should be able to consume alcohol, as well. I propose that a 28th Amendment be added. This Amendment will state that adults over the age eighteen will be able to drink alcohol. Voting is a big milestone for teens, they are finally adults and can choose who they want to run their country, however, they can’t drink. This Amendment would help teens become more responsible and it would get rid of the teenage excitement of doing something bad at a younger age. We are one of twelve countries that have drinking age over twenty. Some say that drinking damages the brain before the age of twenty-one. But, as Drugfree.org states,”The average age at which teens have had their first drink was fourteen.” Young teens, which some people consider are kids, have drunk alcohol. When they leave for college, they are exposed to drinking. At college there are parties and there are drinks. Teenagers are going to have a drink when they are there, so why not have them become more exposed to it when they are younger so they can make better decisions. Having a dink seems like such a big deal to them and can make them feel grown up. But, they can make bad decisions because they haven’t been exposed to it before. They don’t know when to
