Opening Statement: An 18 year old has the right to vote, and serve in the military. If an 18 year old can decide who the potential leader of the country will be and take a bullet for their country then they should have every right to purchase, and drink a beer once in awhile (Cognac). The drinking age should be changed to 18 because you are considered an adult, you won’t drink as much, and you won’t see as many college deaths. People under the age of 21 tend to drink more alcohol because they don’t have the access to any alcohol. “Anyone under the age of 21 sees alcohol as “forbidden fruit”. Curiosity leads to more people under the age of 21 drinking anyway” (Cognac). “According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug use and Health about 7.7 million Americans between the ages of 12-20 report current alcohol consumption” (Cognac). They can vote, pay taxes, own a gun, fight and die for our country, and even become governor of Rhode Island (Fulton). However they can’t have a drink once in awhile? That seems unfair. Whether the drinking age is 18 or 21 there is going to be problems with alcohol. It’s how you react that matters, there is a difference in getting drunk and knowing when to stop. I think if the age limit was lowered to 18 that people would know their limit and go out to have fun rather than go out to get
