Ethical Issues In Special Education

During the school week of September 6, 2016, the principal and vice principal made an unethical decision against two special educators.
Two teachers in the English department were told by the special education chairperson that their collaborating performance was not acceptable. In co-lab classes, special educators were told to only follow the general education teacher’s lead. The two teachers felt frustrated and described that their roles were like a para educator in the classroom. Furthermore, they felt like special educators were needed to complete the various paperwork that were required by the state.

Consequences come in various forms and can be unbearable and unpleasant. I endeavor not to intentionally be involved in unethical activities. I favor one school of thought that admonishes individuals to build ethical relationships on a holistic perspective. “The goal of the ethical person is the combination of all his or her attitudes and dispositions (passions, powers, and tendencies) to become oriented toward ethical relationships with other people in his or her personal and professional life” (Rebore, 2014). Practicing ethical dispositions in both my professional and personal life seem to be beneficial. I believe in representing Christ wherever I am. My professional life demands ethical behaviors. However, ethical behaviors in my personal life will help to shape my character and aid me in ethical consistencies. Ethical behaviors in the classroom should resemble the same behaviors in my home. I should stand for equality in the classroom as well as equality amongst my children. “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). Racial discrimination should not be tolerable in any given occasion. God created all human beings. He considered His beings to be the “crowning act of creation”. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him” (Genesis 1:27). It is humiliating to lower a person self-esteem when they receive unfair treatment because of their complexion. A Caucasian student should not feel that he will receive lower grades on his quiz because the teacher is not a Caucasian. Everyone is equal in the sight of God.
