Abortion is the premature expulsion of a foetus from the womb. The foetus is normally terminated before 24 weeks however in some certain cases it can be up to 30 weeks. These cases consist of the foetus threatening the women’s life. The abortion statistic website shows that in 2014 there were nearly 190,000 abortions carried out. Abortion has been legal in England, Scotland and Wales since 1967 when The Abortion Act was passed. Abortion proves to be a controversial topic due to there being a debate on whether it’s right or wrong. There are two main approaches which help us understand whether abortion is right or immoral; these being religious principles or ethical values. Although these two approaches help us understand the basis of the argument, they fail to include external factors such as the law or someone’s financial or/and emotional stability; which have proven to effect the decision of having an abortion.

There are two well-known groups which have very different opinions to each other. This is theory looks at agape love, which is the best action which causes the most love for that situation, for example if someone was raped, or incest or their life is in danger than this theory will allow them to do the abortion as it is necessary. But this also means that then abortion shouldn’t just be allowed for no reason, as the most loving thing to do when there is no reason for an abortion is to give birth as a baby's life is also valuable and the baby also has the right to live.
