The constant danger of explosions and fires that could overwhelm local emergency crews. Let us remember these are mostly rural areas with volunteer only emergency crews. The other area that needs to be considered is the health of local residents. This could be affected either positively
The obligation to help others in danger extends beyond the immediate act of assistance. It ripples outward, inspiring and motivating others to follow suit. The power of collective action cannot be underestimated. When individuals witness acts of compassion and solidarity, it sparks a chain reaction, prompting others to participate and create a more compassionate
There are times when people are put into a position in which they must choose between helping others or only worrying about themselves. Ethical responsibility is defined as the obligation to morally act in order to guarantee a person is in good physical and emotional health. People show how ethically responsible they are when their own safety is disregarded in order to put the public before them. An action is ethically responsible if the act is done out of someone’s own intention. In the article titled, “Can the Law Make Us Be Decent?,” written by Jay Sterling Silver, the author states that there should be a federal law that requires people to provide assistance to others in need and offers protection to the helper if an unintentional injury
People should treat their unnecessary motivations as a worthless commitment when it comes into doing something very crucial like saving a man drowning in the water. The relationship between a country’s legal system and ethical responsibility is establishing the connection of people being able to risk political and civil responsibility, while wanting to be admirable for others. Finally, many people in fact find Silver’s argument on ethical responsibility flawed; some will also find his argument reasonable because people’s emotions causes them to do random acts of helpfulness in an ethically manner. Society will improve and become beneficial through civil liability. Silver suggest that the U.S should have fair terms for people who at least attempt to assist others in need as best as possible.
In “The Power of Altruism,” David Brooks, a political and cultural journalist for the The New York Times and creator of the Sidney Awards, asserts that, “In real life, the push of selfishness is matched by the pull of empathy and…. by assuming that people are selfish… we’ve wound up with a society that is less cooperative, less trusting, less effective.” Brooks reinforces his claim via studies from Matthieu Ricard’s novel “Altruism” containing evidence that, “If you reward a baby… for being kind, the propensity to help will decrease… up to 40 percent,” he expands his claim with real-world examples of society’s reinforced selfishness like in 2001 where, when the, “Boston fire commissioner ended...unlimited sick days and imposed a limit of 15
Each state has its own version of the Good Samaritan Law. The state laws were enacted to protect someone who is helping another with good intent. I have chosen to compare the state of Maryland, where I currently live, with the state of Massachusetts, where I’ve once lived. Even though the structure of the Maryland and Massachusetts’s Good Samaritan Laws shared some obvious similarities, both laws are seemingly different in terms of its objective. While Maryland’s law delves into specifics, providing examples, details and procedures for different categories and demographics, the law of Massachusetts takes a broader tone, simply allowing for civilian acts committed in the name of emergency care.
Empathy and Values Paper There are personal concerns, physical, social, emotional, social, and family areas that will be affected because of the car accident. As a patient, I want the night nurse to effectively communicate with me by asking me questions by paraphrasing to show understanding of my concerns. My main concern as a student is regaining my ability to walk again so therefore I would want the night nurse to show empathy during my hospital stay.
The idea of universal love is one that is prevalent in today’s society. Newspaper headlines and television news stories seem to focus on stories brimming with terror and hate. Tensions are high concerning race relations, gender discrimination, and sexual orientation and that reflects in reporter’s stories. Many in the general public are calling for humanity to embrace humanity. Many in the general public are asking “why can’t we just love one another”?
(Cong, Nejat and Liang) Also, with prolonged loss of electrical power and extensive infrastructure damage, this restricted access for many citizens to food and water thus creating
In order to build strategies and skills for resilience to disaster in a community you must be able to observe the disaster from beginning to end to know the pros and cons of the aftermath. Being able to mitigate and rebound back to previous state of being is half the battle. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina showed us how vulnerable we were by revealing our core issues with lack of trust and the nonexistence relationship with the community groups and establishments, religious groups, and other organizations in the communities that created difficulties in community’s relationship. As a concept, community resilience offers an outline that embraces philosophies of equity and social justice with an emphasis on developing the majority of populations
Morality, a Bad Idea “It is a mistake to assume that the law should always enforce morality”(Peter Sings). Morality is the principles concerning the distinction between right or wrong, or good and bad behavior. The law is a system that enforces rules for a country or community. The United States is known as a democracy, this is defined by the Independence Hall Association in Philadelphia as “A form of government that gives power to the people.” Making morality be forced into law enforcement will only abandon America’s democracy system.
• Ethical Theories An ethical theory is a decision model .These theories depicts the viewpoints from which people seek guidance as they make decisions. Each theory highlights different points, different decision making style or a decision rule. Ethical theories are based on individual’s ethical ideology these theories allow a person to find an answer to an issue, to make a morally right decision or to justify a decision.
Ethics has opened my world significantly, no longer do I only think in black and white or good or bad, I now think in gray. Without ethics I feel no one can possess an opinion and without knowing your ethical priorities, what makes you think the way you do. Virtue ethics is the closest alignment of my thinking. The value of nature and other beings is very important to me. Without these emotions, how do we connect to an issue or form an opinion on a topic.
As children, we were taught by our parents that it is wrong to lie, cheat, and steal. As we grow up and enter into the real world with some knowledge of right and wrong, we see, first hand, the importance of ethics as well as its complexity. The role of ethics in our society and in an individual’s life is very necessary because it has a large influence on today, as well as the future. We need to learn about good ethics because they guide our decisions, make us who we are, and determine our future.
