“Shells” by Cynthia Rylant is a realistic fiction short story about a boy named Michael who has to live with his Aunt Esther after his parents die. In the beginning, Michael is sad and grieves his parents. He has to live with his Aunt Esther because she was the only one who would take him. Soon, Michael buys a pet hermit crab to keep him company. His aunt tries to get closer to Michael by trying to have something in common with him.
Decisions do not change your chance. In Night, a Memior written by Ellie Wiesel in 1958, a young boy by the name Ellie Wiesel suffers through the Holocaust with his father Shlomo Wiesel. Ellie Wiesel first experiences the Nazi party after being evacuated from his house and put in a ghetto. At this time Jewish people did not know the motive of the Nazi party. After being in the ghetto for a few months Ellie, his father, his mother, and sister where forcefully taken from their home and put in concentration camps.
On September 17, 1951, Cassandra Peterson was born. Although her family eventually relocated to Randolph, Kansas, she was born in Manhattan, Kansas. Prior to Turtle Creek Reservoir flooding the Kansas Randolph region, she was raised there. She attended General William J. Palmer High School when the family relocated to Colorado Springs. She graduated from High School in 1969 and during the course of her education, she had her mother, who owned a costume shop, make whatever outfits she desired in her size, and wore them to school.
Extended out to most children is the hand of a parent offering a warm hug along with warnings of danger to their children. This is what any fit parent would do. However this is not always the case with all parents. For example in the memoir The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Rose Mary and Rex Walls are not fit to be parents because they don’t give their children what they need and have an unstable relationship. Jeannette and her siblings live off of what their parents can afford when they have sufficient money but they don’t use it to give them what they need.
By Invitation Only Throughout this semester, we have covered many cases that exemplifies the way society creates groups in order to categorize people; whether it be by race, sexuality, and/or socioeconomic status. One of the cases we discussed in class was the documentary, By Invitation Only, stood out to me overall. This film dived into a New Orleans tradition that has long been thought of as a fun celebration for all; Mardi Gras. The first recorded Mardi Gras in New Orleans occurred on March 3rd, 1699.
Rise of the dead A superpower is seen as a fictional feature since it is very unrealistic of obtaining such element, however I can always dream. If I could have any superpower it would be to communicate the dead. Whereas, with this ability I will improve the world by giving the people a more reliable justice system, and it shall bring about personal comfort. First, communicating with the dead will solve any mysteries.
In the book Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, Lauren’s views on the world change throughout the book. When she goes from a safer life than others to living on the streets with no knowledge of what to do, she must reevaluate her beliefs. In the beginning of the book, she is very morally right, but towards the end she does what she must do to survive. As she lived more on the street, her views became more flexible, and she gained a deeper understanding of life on the street. Her views are also heavily influenced by outside forces that she grew up with.
In the essay “ Priceless Euphoria”, Lisa Monique talks about what the best things in life are. Monique's essay states that the best things in life aren't things you can buy or money. I certainly agree with her, money is good but it doesn't last forever. She explained the best things in life are for free. Some of the best things are people, emotions, and nature.
I have to say I love my job… and that job is to review books. However, this task can become difficult because sometimes I do not want to read books that are boring and do not grasp my attention. But a job is a job and I am required to review all types of books. Fortunately enough, the book I was asked to review was pretty interesting.
In the Handmaid’s Tale culture is seen through the handmaid’s religious actions, status, and norms. Having to learn different rights as a human can be difficult and these women have to adapt to the certain norms of being a handmaid. They have to get use to wearing the same outfit every day and sleeping in a bed that’s not theirs. Offred explains how everything she has to wear is red (1998:8) She doesn’t get to pick what color she wants to wear each day. They are being forced to wear long skirts with wings around their head in order to prevent them from being seen or from looking at things they are restricted from.
The myth of Orpheus details a passionate yet tragic love story between Orpheus, son of Apollo, and the beautiful oak nymph, Eurydice. Soon after their marriage, Eurydice suffers a ghastly death which leaves Orpheus completely heartbroken at the loss of his wife. Orpheus then travelled to the realm of the dead in search of his beloved wife and with the power of his enchanting musical abilities, he was able to make his way into the heart

A memory is the remembrance of an event in the past that you remembered in your lifetime. Something that you enjoyed, hated or simply remembered to give you information on a subject. Memories hold lots of power so let's discuss what kind of power that they possess.
However, these contrasts between their personal thinking built most of valuable points in Odysseus' epic journey, and making a more intense story. To some extent, these women are not foolish at all because at least they are successful at leading people to believe that waiting is meaningful. The whole story happened during the dark centuries of women in Greece, when their value was limited behind men. However The “Odyssey” gives an opportunity to horror their role, also rejecting all erroneous preconceptions about the woman. Penelope -- a typical woman who represents for an image of a devoted wife, a mother of family and she is also an image of how women was treated at Greece.
Better Off Friends Elizabeth Eulberg’s realistic fiction novel Better off Friends takes place in Wisconsin where it’s very cold in the winter. Mallacan and Levi are two students that go to high school and this story explains the last 5 years of their life. One lesson thus story explains is that you should always tell people the truth from the beginning. Mallacan doesn’t really have feeing’s for Levi at the beginning whenever he first comes to the middle school .While some readers may think this story’s main theme is romance I argue that it is jealousy because Eulberg’s use the descriptive language, first person point of view , and two different fonts.
Characterization Round Character Round characters are characters that are well-developed and act like real people. Amir was one of these characters. Amir started out as a privileged boy who could not live up to his father’s expectations. He was jealous of Hassan and, eventually, sacrifices him to earn Baba’s favor; however, this action brings him guilt. The story shows Amir trying to redeem himself from his childish and cowardly acts of the past as he becomes more selfless and braver.
