Introduction:
In recent years there has been an exponential growth in the size of the events industry around the world. As a result of this growth, it has become increasingly clear that such events must be planned and managed effectively and sustainably. With clear scientific evidence highlighting the negative effects human activities have on the environment, industries worldwide are becoming more aware of the need for sustainable practices, and this includes the event industry. Sustainability involves considering the needs of the present while also bearing in mind the needs of future generations and considering not only environmental impacts but also economic and social impacts (Ahmad et al., 2013).
The purpose of this essay is to summarise and evaluate some of the current research and findings within the events industry relating to sustainable event planning and management and to provide an explanation as to the relevance of this information in regards to real events.
