Mama From "Everyday Use" In Alice Walker's "Everyday Use", Mama is a unique character.She is very different from other mothers.Her actions demonstrate that she is a very capable woman all on her own.She is Physically strong and open minded. One of Mama's Main characteristics is that she is physically strong. A quote of this is when she says "one winter I knocked a bull calf straight in the brain between the eyes with a sledgehammer and had the meat hung up to chill before nightfall"(Walker 78). She is basically saying she killed a baby bull with a sledgehammer and hung up the body which should have some weighted a ton, and she did all of this before the sun even set.Another quote of Mama being Physically strong is when she says, "I can work outside all day,breaking Ice to get water for washing,"(Walker 78). She was breaking Ice that could be from 6 inches to 12 inches thick, and that is a lot of work.Finally, An example that she is physically strong is when she says that she can kill and clean hog just like a man. …show more content…
