The Jonathan Alder Community Support Coalition met on January 20 to discuss ways to continue bringing the school and the community of Plain City closer together. The four main goals of the coalition are to gain an understanding of community agency roles, responsibilities, and expectations in response to community crisis, to discern immediate community needs and long term prevention and support, to facilitate enhanced communication and shared resources for wrapping around our children and families, and to share expertise in educating our children and families about mental health, suicide prevention, and bullying. Jonathan Alder’s Superintendent, and member of the Coalition, Gary Chapman, said, “The community support group was established

To build a better community for future generations, each citizen should show respect, be involved, and have ambition.
On September 21st, I attended an event featuring guest activist and author Susan Burton. The event started at 2:00pm as the room overflowed with people eager to hear Susan 's voice. There were people occupying every space of the rather small Whitsett room. Ms. Burton first talked about the traumas she suffered as a child and later, as an adult. Susan 's son was tragically ran over and killed by a police officer, which led to alcohol and drug abuse and her eventual incarceration.
In 1854, America began what is known as The Orphan Train Movement, which lasted approximately 75 years. The trains moved about 200,000 children from cities like New York and Boston to the American West to be adopted (Brown) . Many organizations opened their doors to these orphans who were mostly living on the streets. The Children’s Aid Society was a much needed organization that helped orphan train riders, but many other organizations competed with the Children’s Aid Society. Organizations started up for one intention- to make children safe.
In this assignment I will be discussing the ways that health and social care settings use national initiatives to promote anti-discriminatory practice. An anti-discriminatory practice is preventing discriminations by taking action against this, and this includes race, class, gender, and behaviour towards each other. All employees promote this because it promotes equality for service users and staff by removing discrimination. National initiatives are a legal and an official document and is also a part of anti-discriminatory practice to prevent discrimination and there are policies and legislations that are used to protect people from discrimination in their daily lives, and health and social care settings use national initiatives to ensure
Although outside experts and assistance can help bring resources to the community, actual change must come from lifting leaders within the community who have been raised and affected by the structural racism and violence. The communities typically will listen to, believe, and trust the leaders because they were once victims of the system and are showing great effort for change. These leaders are the experts of the communities and can reach out to people like Professor Jorja Leap for additional help in gaining access to the specific resources needed. Elder Cummings and his work is a prime example of how the actions of a single person can serve as a beacon of hope for the entire community. Through the various projects previously mentioned, Elder Cummings is making positive changes in the community.
For example, businesses could offer to fund summer lunch programs or school-supply drives. All of these efforts foster a community of care and support for
I believe community is an important aspect to all our lives. Community builds character and, in some cases, defines who we are. There are different forms of community, such as “community standards” and “community action”, that ultimately bring individuals together whether they agree or disagree with one another. In his book Our Divided Political Heart, E.J. Dionne discusses what community is and its significance to society. Through my writing, I would like to specifically talk about “community action”, “community standards” and “community policing”.
Community accountability and community based approaches challenge us to seriously address violence and intimate harms without reproducing the technologies of individualization, pathology, penality, protection under the authority of heteropatriarchy and white supremacy, and criminalisation, all of which continually deny and subvert our notions of safety and justice. We are asked to consider recover and build the potential of community while recognizing and disengaging from strategies that undermine the possibility of community formation. Community accountability is any strategy to address violence, abuse, or harm that creates safety, justice, reparations, and healing without relying on police, prisons, child protection services, or any other state
The Planned Change Model is a seven step process which involves: engagement, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, termination and follow up. (Campus, 2014-2015) In the scenario provided, as social workers the first step would involve engaging the community. As a community dealing with the issue of crime, it would be important to include all stakeholders from the community, victims as well as non-affected individuals.’ Secondly, we would walk through, speaking randomly to engage community members so as to get information on what is happening on the grounds of the community.
As individuals, and in groups, we can change our communities. We can set up neighbourhoods and institutions in which people commit them self to working to form strong relationship bonds and alliances with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
These types of clusters motivated members to amend their actions and judgements by incorporating communal goals and thus creating participation or membership to be a change based on the way of life as well as cultural
Even though, we can acquire this knowledge, awareness and understanding just by surfing the internet or reading a book, we can make the effort to ask the people living in our community our questions, deepening our understanding, awareness and knowledge about them and at the same time bonding with them. Sometimes, the internet or book may not have all of the answers to our questions and
