English 1010 was an amazing class, during the period that the class was going on I was able to develop my communication skills and become aware of the world around me and how individuals operate according to what the society wants from them. The English 1010 class helped in developing a new aspect of reasoning, analyzing and drawing adequate conclusion. Furthermore I was to know the kind of informations I can take in and avoid wrong assumptions. Most class assignment were based on distinct formats which was a little difficult for me in the beginning but eventually I was able to follow the procedures which help improve my grades in other classes too. The Use of Rhetorical Devices in the “Google Home” Super Bowl Commercial Companies and other forms of media strategically use the three rhetorical appeals, ethos, pathos, and logos, to market goods and/or promote ideas. The appeals have been used for centuries are still prevalent in all types of modern day propaganda. If used correctly, ethos, pathos, and logos can be used as clever tactics to engrain information into the brains of consumers. One of the more notable ways that brands use these appeals are commercials. Google, the world’s most famous multinational technology company, used the three appeals to reach success.
Genre Throughout the different texts we analyzed in the first half of the quarter, we looked at the various genres of the texts in order to see how they affect rhetoric. Genres are important to rhetoric because they raise and manage expectations the audience might have for a specific work. This is because people have internalized the generic conventions of a genre. We delved into these conventions by analyzing different genres of texts such as Pitbull’s music video, film, various poems, and speeches. An example of how we analyzed a genre is how we annotated Horace’s poem about carpe diem.
Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
As our final assignment for cornerstone we were tasked with revising our rhetorical analysis. I received a B, 81%, and by the end of my revisions have “A” quality work. During recent assignments and papers for other classes I realized the thesis was one of the first few sentences in the paper. As I was reading my paper I noticed that the purpose of the author writing this wasn 't until almost halfway into the first paragraph.

The main argument of the essay is how to effectively read an essay. The author wants the reader to try out a different way of reading. He points out that we need to fully understand rhetoric to be able to analyze an essay properly. He states that learning the art of persuasion can be difficult, but it will help break down an essay into parts. He also advices taking notes while reading to fully grasp what the author is trying to say.
In this interactive oral, the class was given two different examples where a rapper displays a theme through content and tone. One of these was through a song called “Dreams” by J. Cole where in it, a man wishes to murder another hoping to have a chance at love with the victim’s wife. In the other example, we referenced to a music video for the song “Stan” by Eminem where a man kills himself after never receiving a response to his numerous fan mail to Eminem. These artists used a technique in their songs that Gabriel Marquez too uses in Love in the Time of Cholera. We noted that Marquez infests this book with rich imagery giving love more of an embodied essence making it mirror Florentino’s emotions, saturated and ubiquitous.
Have you ever gone through a breakup that shattered your entire world? If someone goes through a breakup, they typically go through a mix of emotions. Emotions define who we are even though some people may want to delete those feelings because they cause an issue. Those issues can include depression, bipolar disorder, and/or anger issues. One emotions that can cause these bigger complications is bitterness.
While reading there are various ways to gain a deeper understanding of the text. For example, one method a reader can apply to increase their understanding is rhetorical reading defined as “involves more than ‘agreeing’ or ‘disagreeing’” (Heasley et al. 89). Thus, requiring the reader to focus on the text and pay close attention to the rhetorical situation to comprehend how an argument is working. In detail, the rhetorical situation consists of the writer, reader, text/purpose, and context.
Introduction Comparing the passage about the cleansing of the leper across the synoptic gospels presents some interesting differences. In this essay, an attempt will be made to explore these differences. The intention is to begin by identifying and describing the differences which I find to be most significant or interesting and then to offer my thoughts on these in the context of the evangelist presenting the passage. Consideration will also be given to whether or not there are any correlations to themes in other parts of the same gospel. Finally, the aim is to indicate a key message I derive from the passage in one of the three gospels for a homily.
While creating my rhetorical analysis paper I used all of my typical writing processes. I began this assignment by selecting a commercial that I thought would be the most appealing in the superbowl. After selecting my commercial I did some research at the library using EBSCOhost. I then created an outline on what my paper would be about and pieced all of its parts together. In the future I will try to recieve help earlier on because at first I struggled to understand what the purpose of the paper was.
Kathryn Stockett successfully uses rhetorical devices to get the reader to feel and understand the perspectives of the protagonists. Stockett uses pathos, ethos, and logos in her book, since the book about social injustice. The topics in the book range from inequality of the sexes to social classes and racism, Stockett is successful in getting the reader to reflect while reading the book and the themes of the book have a clear presence. We see Stockett use ethos and pathos in the very first chapters when we learn that Hilly doesn't like Minny and Minny doesn't want to say why at first, but the incident with Ms. Holbrook was affecting her chances of getting a job because of the influence Hilly has over this suburban society. In some instances where Stockett uses ethos, pathos is also included in her writing.
