Coaching the Del City Bible Quiz team has been a life-changing experience from the beginning. When I founded the team in early April, my father, a pastor, was nearing the end of his eight-month transition from senior pastor to interim pastor to layperson. This lengthy process involved numerous churches across Oklahoma as well as the unfortunate loss of several friendships. Luckily, the Bible Quiz team became a source of new friendships that helped me through the tough transition.
Bethel Baptist Church never encountered a challenge like this before. The church accepted an invitation to participate in a mission in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Making an appearance in a foreign environment terrified both adolescents and adults. Even with those uneasy feelings, the congregation quickly zeroed in on the goal at hand in spreading God’s love to this needy region. With events such as church cleanup, food ministry, and disaster relief, the church left with a greater appreciation of life, and how lucky many of the citizens in the United States truly are.
The recent dismissal of NewSpring Church’s founder and senior pastor Perry Noble has prompted a California minister to share his own struggle with alcohol dependence and warn Christians against “flaunting” their liberties. On Sunday, NewSpring Church executive pastor Shane Duffey announced that they had removed Perry Noble as senior pastor on July 1. He said the recently fired pastor’s poor decisions have disqualified him from church service. Noble himself acknowledge his mistake and promised to return to the right path and to keep on following Jesus, Christian News relays.

Becki Hawkins’ story about Brother Tolbert, a Pentecostal Minister, hit home with me. He was an elderly gentleman who had heart and lung damage from chemo and radiation. She went to visit him by request of his second wife. While Becki was with Brother Tolbert, he asked her if she could get him into his bed so he could look out at the church and an old tree right outside of the window. He knew his time was up, and accepted it.

Several Sunday mornings ago, a local church had a missionary as a guest speaker, and his speech appealed to the congregation through his incorporation of ethos, logos, and pathos. The missionary began his speech by stating that he had originally planned to become a pastor after graduating from seminary, but after receiving his degree he felt led to use his skills to assist the less fortunate. He soon joined an organization and has spent the past eight years in Latin America helping others while teaching Christianity. In the previous statement, the missionary attempted to appeal to the congregation through ethos. He discussed seminary school and his missionary experience in order to establish credibility as a trustworthy man of God.
"My fervent prayer is that we will be able to share our witness in ways that will impact the Bishop 's Commission on the Future of the Church positively and contribute to the advance of God 's Kingdom among the people called Methodists globally," said the Rev. "Those who choose to participate in this great endeavor will be better positioned I believe to embrace a fruitful future regardless of what ultimately occurs within The United Methodist Church." As a result, my experience has grown from volunteering to serve as a camp leader for orphans in the summer to participating in international dental service trips.
