Archetypes
Archetypes affect the reader, and most people who are chained to their book have just read over the words.They don’t realize the patterns the authors have placed within each text. Each character stands for something and it is universal pattern of human nature. Why does this affect the reader? Archetypes are relatable and link to many sought-after novels. Both Rise of the Guardians and Ender's Game follow the universal patterns of archetypes and are easily linkable. For example each text has anti-heroes, heroes, loyal retainers, and mentors.

Ender's Game and Rise of the guardians not only share the common ground of having mentors but also anti- heroes. In Ender's Game Ender is the anti-hero. He has no choice but to join comander school because he is the third child, and the only one of his siblings to get in. He is tricked into becoming the hero of the world but to himself he is a killer and does not believe what the others do. “Real. Not a game. Ender’s mind was too tired to cope with it all. They weren't just points of light in the air, they were real ships he had destroyed. And a real world that he had blasted into oblivion. He walked through the crowd, dodging their congratulations, ignoring their hands, their words, their rejoicing.”(Scott 256). This quote proves Ender did not want to be their hero. Ender shook away the fact he saved earth and instead took on the weight of destroying a planet. In Rise of the guardians Jack never asked to be a guardian either. The moon chose him and he was thrown on a path he never wanted to follow. Although he ends up becoming the hero it was not the path he chose. After North captures Jack, he tries to perform the ritual of becoming a guardian. Jack's response is: “What makes you think I want to be a Guardian?”(Rise of the Guardian's. Peter Ramsey. 2013.
