In Romeo and Juliet this statement happens way too much. When a character in the story tries to do something good. Something bad always follows behind. Even when the character’s intentions are good. It never ends the way the character wants it to end. This statement is evident from the beginning of Romeo and Juliet. When Romeo and Juliet first meet. They instantly fall in love. Friar decides to marry Romeo and Juliet. Romeo came to Friar early in the morning to ask him if he would marry them. Friar states “ I’ll thy assistant be; For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households’ rancor to pure love” (Shakespeare 1076). Friar only marries Romeo and Juliet because he thinks it will stop the families feuding. The thing he did not know is that it only made things worse. Cliffsnotes.com states that “ His decision to marry the lovers is well-meaning but indicates that he has been naive in his assessment of the feud and hasn't reflected on the implications of Romeo and Juliet's clandestine marriage” (Cliffsnotes.com). This states that Friar was only thinking about what the positive outcome would be. He never even thought of the negative effects it could have on the families. In conclusion, Romeo and Juliet shows that when a character tries to do something good. It always ends in a bad result. In Romeo and Juliet every character tried to do something positive, and it always ended in a negative way. You could only imagine what could have happened if the characters thought about their decisions more wisely.
