Every workplace puts together a workforce of people from all different social and cultural backgrounds. Cultural diversity is extremely important in having a successful running business. This didn’t use to be such a big deal, but early in the 2000’s is when businesses started to take advantage of diversity. What is cultural diversity exactly? “Cultural diversity is the co-existence of diverse cultures, where culture includes racial, religious, or cultural groups and is manifested in customary behaviors, cultural assumptions and values, patterns of thinking, and communicative styles.” (Boateng 2013) The following will go over different trends and examples. Companies use this training quite regularly and it’s very important. It is extremely critical to a business that all employees try their best to understand and appreciate other co-workers no matter where they are from. So the reason being for the sensitivity training is to educate employees on how to act and communicate around people of different ethnicities. During this training period the employees are taught appropriate terms that are to be used, proper etiquette, work on their communication skills. People that are usually worked with during this time are team members and workmates, supervisors, managers, and consultants. There are three main concepts that are key to understanding and being able to work in a cultural and socially diverse environment. First is cultural diversity which was talked about earlier on in the paper. Next is Cultural differences which would go over all the different beliefs, values, religion, and customs. Last is cultural awareness this is where the employees are taught that all people are not the same. It shows you how to appreciate people’s differences. Ways that businesses are promoting this is they are ensuring all their employees are trained in this department. This is still a much underused thing but just like everything else is becoming more and more popular. More and more companies are starting to realize how important disabled workers can be on their workforce. Most places do believe now that the disabled can add benefits to their company. Some places will find themselves second guessing and having concerns about hiring disabled worker but then later are able to see their concerns go right out the door because of the help they are bringing. Two things that are brought with disabled workers are their hard work and motivation that they bring to the table and it also looks good on a company when they have that hard of workers and are still producing just as they should. It is still extremely hard for the disabled to get a job in fact the unemployment rate is still extremely high setting at 85 percent. Some jobs that they are set up with may unfortunately be for under minimum wage. When a disabled person gets hired at a good job you can almost bet that they are going to work extremely hard because they have overcome a lot of battles to get to the job that they are at and are most likely very
