Diversity
Diversity is about celebrating and valuing people’s differences and looking at their differences in a positive way. When you recognise individual’s differences it can benefit society as everyone has something different about them and will be able to contribute something different.
Examples of diversity
• In relation to enjoying and achieving – Having gender specific toys available to be used by all and carrying out activities that reverse the usual gender roles.
• In relation to making a positive contribution – Having a child that has been on holiday to celebrate a religious festival or wedding to talk to the class about the experience such as, the clothes they wore or the activities they were involved in.

Inclusion
Inclusion means making sure every person has a chance to be involved. Involved meaning fully participating and not just watching from the side-lines and being left out. It’s not just adapting the setting to make it accessible to everyone it’s about fully adapting activities to enable every child to take part regardless of ability or disability. There should be no reasons or excuses to leave anyone out.
Examples of inclusion
• In relation to enjoying and achieving – The setting could ensure that there are pictures/photos of lots of different people of races and abilities that have gone on to do something great such as Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson.
• In relation to enjoying and achieving – Having the facilities in place for children with impairments to be fully involved such as braille and translation services.
• In relation to making a positive contribution – Educating children on disability to raise awareness to overcome discrimination.
