The perfect world, no crime, no hate, and no mistakes. That is, if you’re part of them. Catholicism is an illusion of the perfect society. They give and receive nothing back. It is almost as if Catholics live in “an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect,” (Utopia). However to the people looking in from the outside it seems more like “an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one,” (Dystopia). In the novel Orwell states, “Winston was able to remain outside the range of the telescreen, so far as sight went. He could be heard, of course, but so long as he stayed in his present position he could not be seen” (Orwell 8). When Orwell states, that it is showing that citizens are always under surveillance by the telescreens. They have the telescreens so the goverment can watch you at all times and it gives the citizens fake news that they are supposed to think is true. Next, freedom of thought is forbidden. Winston is terrified when Parson’s son says, “You’re a thought criminal!”(Orwell 26). Citizens are restricted from having their own thoughts. Winston wrote down his thoughts and Parson’s kids were chasing Winston down the hallway and accused him of being a thought criminal. This could get him killed. In the book Orwell says, “Big Brother is watching you, the caption beneath it ran” (Orwell 3). Big Brother watches them at all times and restricts them from having their own thoughts and being free. Big Brother has full control of them and knows what the citizens are doing all the time.Further, in the novel 1984, there is a lot of propaganda to control the citizens. They are honest so there is no deceit, the rules are sacred and everyone agrees with them, and if lived a true catholic life then one is rewarded with a trip to heaven. True Catholics believe that their lifestyle is a utopia because they are always honest whether it's straight up or if it's bending the truth to save someone's feelings. The ninth commandment is “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor,” (Bible). This means that if one were to lie then they would be committing a sin and that would not appease God. God has a set of rules that cannot be broken and they are the baseline of how one should live. These rules are the commandments; there are Ten Commandments and every catholic yearns to follow them. If one were to be broken in any way then they would go confess their guilt to a priest in order to stay pure in the eyes of God. For if one is pure from the time if a child to a senior citizen then they will be rewarded. Heaven is the best reward for anyone because it is the definition of a utopia. Everything is perfect and it is envisioned differently by everyone so there would be no need for jealousy or a want for change to disrupt anything and cause a dystopian
