The Rule of St. Benedict explained the duties of catholic ethics mainly through scripture. “We ask God that his will be done in us (Matt. 6:10).” Benedict of Nursia is focusing on the fact that we as Christians are supposed to put God first before anything else. He is hinting that we are to do what God require of us and not do whatever we please. He wants us to realize that when we obey God we are doing his will but we disobey God we are doing our will. “Do not be guided in your actions by the values of this world, and do not value anything more highly than the love of Christ.” Benedict of Nursia is against people putting materialistic things above God. He wants us to partake in glorifying God instead of glorifying the world and people. He wants us to avoid getting involved in the negative things that this world offers and focus on the positive. “Avoid pride, respect your elders and care for those younger than yourself.” According to Benedict of Nursia, we as Christian have not right to believe that we are better than anyone. He wants us to humble ourselves instead of having a boastful attitude. Also, he does not want us to neglect our elders instead he wants us to show interest towards them and be obedient. He wants us to give advice to the ones who are younger than us because maybe we can teach them how not to make the same mistakes we did or inform how they can accomplish what we did. He wants us to become positive mentors to the younger crowd so that they can have someone to look up
