In reading the book, Jesus on Leadership, I was once again blown away at how well it was written. I started reading this book during the summer, but was not able to complete it, much less get past the first principle. It is logged full of information and thoughts, that the first 50 some pages are covered in multiply colored highlighters. Going over the information and wording in this book, it is impossible to not have to stop and re-read each page. That is the only part that saddened me about needing to read this book so quickly. I wanted to dissect every word sentence. What does it take to lead like Jesus leads? Am I that kind of leader? Am I the servant that Jesus was? Some of the things that I enjoyed about this book was that he focused on what being a servant looked like, he and that he expounded on all the different principles as well as the ultimate theme; serve those you lead. For myself and the ministry I am over, this idea has helped me to be a better leader, already. One of the comments made in this book was about how those who serve, follow by example. My pastor always tells me: “Don’t expect, what you do not inspect.” In other words, I am still responsible for me team and what is going on, but it doesn’t me I have to shoulder the load. We are all a part of a greater vision. In the book on page 216, Wilkes states that team mission related goals are everything. “Committees control. But teams empower.” We are coming into a season in the Children’s Ministry where we are preparing teams for fundraising for kid’s camp, and teams for our Easter production.
