Leadership is a significant role in civilization. When there is no leadership present, savagery takes over and causes chaos. Since leadership remains a key responsibility, there are qualities that the leader must have. Leaders who are capable of making decisions for those who are afraid show courage. They also must be responsible because they are liable for things in their power, and in the efforts, they must consistently express good intentions that benefit everyone.
Leadership is a joint effort by both the people and the leader and should be treated as such. With this collaborativeness we can successfully work as a nation just as the Leadership video stated. “Leadership provides people with a sense of security. Good leaders work with the people and ensure that they are safe…” (Source G) Understanding that the people come first and that all should work together is the first step to a properly functioning society.
The first leadership role I would like to mention is my role as an assistant teacher/helper during the summer at our local Boys and Girls Club. The next leadership role I would like to mention is my role as a VBS teacher at my church in Starkville, Ms. I would like to be able to acquire more leadership roles and such in the future to further my leadership horizon. ~What Being a Leader Means to Me~ There are some key things that make a leader a leader to me. The first one is not panicking in the presence of mistake or failure. The second thing is a strong sense of courage and willingness to lead with pride.
Leadership can be executed in many different methods. However, the best form of leadership comes when serving is the first priority amongst all others. Within an organization, leadership roles exist at all levels, providing endless opportunities for employees to affect change. The Federal Bureau of Prisons offers many leadership positions amongst its ranks, though not all individuals are meant to lead.
Lisa Cash Hanson said, "Leadership is the ability to guide others without force into a direction or decision that leaves them still feeling empowered and accomplished. " Hanson continues to remind me of the selfless nature that great leaders continue to practice. To me, leadership is not a title or destination. Leadership isn't about remembrance or fame, it's about the impact, inspiration, and the influence you have on others.
A good leader must communicate with his followers because if he does not, there will be confusion as to what they should do in a certain situation. A bad leader, on the other hand, resorts to fear in his followers by not communicating, staying unfocused, and by being dishonest with his followers. Benjamin Franklin was an example of a good leader, because he communicated with the people of Philadelphia, he was able to relate with them by humor, and was determined and passionate for his ideas and inventions.
I identify the role of leadership as someone who takes charge and leads by example. Being a leader is someone a person can look up to like a role model. I have demonstrated leadership by how my actions on the field are far greater than my words. By having years of experience I have learned the way to lead is putting in the extra effort, and my accomplishments demonstrate that. In addition to being a player on the field, I took on the important role and responsibility of being an umpire.
In my eyes, a leader is not a title for one person to have. Anybody who dares to step up and help change things for the better is a leader, regardless of who they are. Every team needs leadership to be successful. Leadership is a quality that takes place on and off the court and in the field. A way that I demonstrate leadership in my sports life is by not only holding myself accountable for reaching my full potential but also holding my teammates accountable.
I agree with this statement. The followers need to be able to like their leader and get inspiration from them. However, if the followers do not like their leader, they might rebel or protest. A good leader must have moral integrity.
Leadership is more important than followership for many reasons. Leaders are the foundation for the trust of followers to produce high quality results. Without establishing trust, followers may take matters into their own hands. “Trust is the glue that binds the leader to her/his followers and provides the capacity for organizational and leadership success. ”1
He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent" (McCarther 2015). A leader should lead from the front and also have the ability to think quickly on their feet and take care of their Soldiers. From my point of view , Leadership has more to it than I can possibly imagine. I define leadership as the art of enabling a group of people get to a specific destination. As a leader your main focus was to enable your followers lead theselves. As i think deeper i realise a person cannot choose to be a leader. I think a lot of the time people take on leadership positions without knowing.
Critically compare and evaluate three themes or issues related to the practice of leadership discussed in the readings and set text taking into consideration a Biblical worldview. The three themes that are related to the practice of leadership that I will review are Model the way (leading by example) , Inspire a shared vision (leading continuous change) and Enable others to act (giving others the opportunity to lead and make decisions). In the book the Leadership challenge Kouzes and Posner define "leadership as the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirations.
