Truett Cathy was a very humble man. He remembers to praise God for the advances he makes, and he tries to keep his business simple and friendly. In chapter 1, he speaks on the fact that he wasn’t the Straight A student in school, but that’s not what makes a successful person. He reminds us that common sense and hard work are what makes a person successful and able to accomplish their goals. He recalls his first opportunity, being the Chick-fil-A Sandwich, as a simple concept. He wanted it to be boneless, skinless chicken on a toasted buttered bun with two pickles. From this we can see that it doesn’t require a 5 star meal with fancy named dishes to become famous. Once he started creating these and he opened his first store in the Greenbriar …show more content…
Truett truly understood that the growth of Chick-fil-A came from the individuals who understood the problems that could arise in operations, legalities, marketing, personnel and real estate aspects of the business. In Chapter 1 alone, Mr. Truett makes it extremely clear to the reader that he didn’t just wake up one day and make a multi-billion dollar business. He was a normal man with a great idea and a God who helped him succeed. In Chapter 2, he begins by talking on how he barely had enough money to begin his business. He understood that if he wanted his business to succeed that he had to sacrifice quite a bit to get the Dwarf House up and running. It comes down to the fact that if a business is opened with the biggest and best equipment instead of slowly working up to the luxuries, the business will be bankrupt in a very small amount of time. He also reveals that the model for building a customer base is offering free food to get people to try the restaurant out. To explain, first mile service is when a guest comes in and is greeted with a smile, served good food, and is served quickly and accurately in a clean …show more content…
My favorite line in this book came from chapter 5 and it reads, “Chick-fil-A is what it is today because of its product, people and purpose.” It takes much more than just serving great food to guests to make Chick-fil-A prosper. From this book I can take away that there is much more involved in leading than ordering people around. Mr. Cathy made sure to not order people around, but to ask people if they want to do something then ask if it’s a problem. From this book I can also take away that a good leader needs a good foundation. The foundation consists of hard work, a strong faith in God, and good leadership skills. Finally, the very last page and the very last of the “Eleven Do’s and Don'ts of Proven Success” really spoke to me. The fact of the matter is that we need to strive to make every decision with God involved. Whether that be the decision to be a team leader or that be the decision on how to lead once you become a leader, God has to be involved in every decision. God really did design us to be winners, and we have to honor that by stepping up and leading or doing whatever we are called to
