Fahrenheit 451 contains dualistic ideas of utopias versus dystopias. This is displayed primarily through its main character, Guy Montag, and his change from the beginning of the story to the end. In the beginning, Montag had a firm belief that he was living in a utopia; “It was a pleasure to burn” (Bradbury 1), he enjoyed his career as a fireman and believed that he lived a happy life. That view was quickly shattered when he was questioned by Clarisse McClellan, a peculiar young girl who posed the question, “Are you happy?” to Montag.
