The ethical issue In the movie Monsters Inc. by Pixar and Disney, Is that The company, Monsters incorporated, provides energy for the whole city. The company has an issue scaring kids for energy. It causes the city to have an energy shortage. However, the company itself has an issue with a kid who was able to come into the monster’s world. It causes conflict between Sully and Mike who wants to help Boo go home and the rest of the monsters who are scared of the human and don’t care what happens to Boo. The CEO comes in to help to manage the situation but ends up making the situation worse. He not only caused the situation to be unethical but also illegal. Even a small sock or toy would cause the CDA, a child detection agency, to get rid of it immediately. In the movie, the CEO promises that he will “I’ll Kidnap thousands of kids before I let this company die”. He and Randel used an illegal machine to try to harm and suffocate a child to get as much energy as they can from them. The CEO’s statement also goes against the CDA. The CDA wants to keep any child contaminant in the human world, so even one human child is extremely against their rules or laws. An alternative decision the CEO could have taken was to investigate the situation and realize that his employees and the safety of everyone else are more important than the company. If he rationally discussed with Sully and Mike about the situation and treated them fairly, the CEO would have learned that laughter is 10x stronger than screaming. If the CEO did this, he would have seen the situation more clearly and contacted the CDA to get Boo safely back to the human world. If he made this decision he would have been the one to remodel the company and save it from going out of business. The monsters would have a bad reputation and the humans would have injured many monsters. Sully and Mike’s decision was the safest for everyone. An example that they model is Vera English. She contacted the company about her concerns about the radioactive spillages but was fired, she still testified against the company and got Justice. When she “blew the whistle” it benefited the working environment and the people working there. Like Vera English, Sully and Mike were able to go against the company for the safety of others. It also benefited the working environment into a more enjoyable workplace. When the CEO was in charge there were many issues for finding monsters to scare children and finding kids that will be scared by the monsters. When Sully and Mike took over the company they were able to remodel the company and give more employers an opportunity to work at Monsters inc.
