IS MACBETH EVIL OR GOOD? “Fair is foul and foul is fair” said by all three witches (I.i.10). The meaning of this quote is to demonstrate how people in this play who are good turn evil and people who are evil turn good. In William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth there is a lot of evil and good being introduced from murder to tricking someone into murder. And in this play, there is a lot of Evil especially from one of the main characters Macbeth who was once good but turned out to be truly evil. It is arguable that Macbeth is truly evil or truly good, but despite the beginning of the play he is truly evil, this is demonstrated when Macbeth kills King Duncan, when the evil witches even say Macbeth is Evil, and when Macbeth hires murders to kill Macduff's …show more content…

And with doing that he truly came out for what he was capable to do. He was able to think of the evilest thing and kill King Duncan to fulfill the prophecy. Macbeth mentions, "I go, and it is done. The bell invites me. Hear it not, Duncan, for it is a knell That summons thee to heaven, or to hell” (II.i.62-64). This shows importance since Macbeth has done an act of evil like killing to fulfill a prophecy. He is showing his true potential and how truly evil he can be. Not only did he kill King Duncan but further in the play when the 3 evil witches and Hecate are making an evil potion. All the sudden the 2nd witch senses an evil approaching referring to Macbeth. To demonstrate, when the 2nd witch says," By the pricking of my thumbs, Something wicked this way comes” (IV.i.44-45). This demonstrates true Evil because even as the evil witches are made out to be, they referred Macbeth as wicked. They did that to show that even the witches see him as evil. They also refer him, to what they are, wicked. Also, as we progress further into the play Macbeth starting to be more worried about Macduff. He decides to hit Macduff where it hurts.
