Murdering the king undoubtedly makes Macbeth a true villain. He becomes sincerely evil, consumed with ambition and devotion to protect his position once he is crowned king, however as the story goes on we hear the witches say that Macbeth needs to be careful of his supposedly trusted ally Macduff. Macbeth hires assassins to kill Macduff's servants, wife, and children. Macbeth states, “The castle of Macduff I will surprise, give to the edge o’ the sword, his wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls that trace him in his line” (Act Ⅳ, scene Ⅰ).
