A Tragic Hero Macbeth was a tragic hero because he is a character whose fate is a product of what others do and how he chooses to react. He represents humankind in a way of ambition and greed, and showed a lot of personal courage in accepting his fate of death or annihilation. To start off, Macbeth is a character whose fate is a product of what others do and what he chooses to do. For example Macbeth wanted to be king but he was smart enough to not use a blade of his own so he took the daggers of Duncan’s “ two chamberlains” that were sleeping so that they would be blamed for the murder of Duncan. However he did not want to plant the daggers back in the servants possession with the blood on them but Lady Macbeth seen the daggers but refused to fail so she mocked Macbeth’s courage and took it unto her own responsibility to plant the daggers.
Murdering the king undoubtedly makes Macbeth a true villain. He becomes sincerely evil, consumed with ambition and devotion to protect his position once he is crowned king, however as the story goes on we hear the witches say that Macbeth needs to be careful of his supposedly trusted ally Macduff. Macbeth hires assassins to kill Macduff's servants, wife, and children. Macbeth states, “The castle of Macduff I will surprise, give to the edge o’ the sword, his wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls that trace him in his line” (Act Ⅳ, scene Ⅰ). Clearly, you can see that Macbeth’s temptation takes over once he hears there is a threat in his position to be king.
Shakespeare once said, "A man cannot become a hero until he can see the root of his own downfall. " What makes a tragic hero? A tragic hero is typically a figure who is high in power, usually with a noble background. They are predominantly good in nature, but end up suffering a self inflicted falling-out due to flaws in their own personality.

Lady Macbeth starts yearning for power and the death of King Duncan, as she takes complete charge of the planning of the murder. As the play concludes, Lady Macbeth has gone from being hungry for power, to being haunted by the guilt of murder, thus leading her to go insane. Her thirst for power and willingness to do anything to achieve that power disfigures her spirit and sense of morality.

Therefore, with this statement of no longer wishing to be a woman Lady Macbeth begins to exhibit knowledge of how a man should act, because men is the only other alternative to being a woman. Lady Macbeth desires to not be a woman anymore because she would be able to do the dirty work herself, since women usually do not commit such crimes.
Some time our tragic heroes, have their downfalls, are the protagonist of a dramatic tragedy. A tragic hero is usually a great hero, who is respected by many people, but also it can be taken away through bad decisions. Wrong judgment is the result of his or her downfall, a flaw which might combined with fated and external forces. The downfall can cause the tragic hero to suffer for the rest of his life. In many literary works, at their highest point of tragic heroes usually have their downfall.

Macbeth is considered a villain because he murdered the king – under his wife’s consent – and became more and more power hungry as the play evolves. Lady Macbeth is named a villain because she manipulates her husband into doing the things she wants so she can indirectly gain more power. She convinces her husband to kill the king so he can have reign of the kingdom. They are characterized as villains because they have committed an unthinkable act out of pure selfishness and an unquenchable need for power.
In the beginning, there was Macbeth who was a soldier that fought in a war for his country. Macbeth got a visit from three witches who gave a prophesy that he is going to be thane of Cawdor then later on be King over Scotland. Lady Macbeth receive a letter from her husband Macbeth about how he might be King in the future but something stand in the way. Lady Macbeth said that they need to “that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here” meaning that if she was a man that she will fight to be King of the kingdom.
