Lowry makes it seem like a huge dam has been broken in between Jonas and the Giver using her style and word choice. This both created a major trust between the mentor and hero, as well as showed use of style by Lowry. This moment is developed by the style, and it develops the hero’s journey, which makes the style a major part of the hero’s journey in The Giver. In Among the Hidden the author says, “Jen waited. The silence between them seemed to be growing, like a balloon.
This again shows that Jonas is being isolated from his feelings and his friends and his love for them. This shows that the themes of rules and order and isolation are present throughout the story of 'The Giver'. This concludes my essay on the story of…'The Giver' Hudson
Lea Vilna-Santos Mrs. English, 7th September 1st, 2015 The Giver, by: Lois Lowry Entry Log 9: Chapters 17-18: Question 5: I chapters 17-18, The Giver goes back to the memory of the failure-Rosemary, and Jonas finally finds out what happened to her. Rosemary was like Jonas because she was curious and eager to receive more memories. The Giver gave her only good memories in the beginning, which I think was a bad idea because, then, all there is left are bad memories. He loved her and didn’t want to hurt her, but they both knew it was her job to receive all the memories- even the negative ones.
Jonas as a character shows bravery or courage throughout the story in many different ways. To begin, he shows bravery and courage because he was told that he was able to take on what no one else in the Community could. Lois Lowry states in the novel, “‘But you will be faced, now,’ she explained gently, with pain of a magnitude that none of us here could comprehend because it is beyond our experience”(63).Lois also wrote, “‘But we feel certain that you are brave,’ she said to him”(63). These quotes are saying that they think that he is brave enough to face the pain of a magnitude or extent that only he and the Giver could understand because they in the Givers case was the receiver or in Jonas’s case is the
In the Giver people are not allowed to make decisions, the author does this to comment on our worry of mistakes. In Jonas's society people are not given choice in their life the Giver said this is because, “‘He might make wrong choices.’” (Lowry, 98). In the community

The Giver Literature essay I have read the dystopian novel “The Giver” (1993) which is written by the beloved American author Lois Lowry. “The Giver” is about a twelve-year-old boy with the name Jonas. Jonas lives a similar life as all the others in the community, until the Ceremony of Twelve when he got assigned the task as the Receiver of Memory. As The Receiver of Memory it is Jonas’ task to keep all the memories of the past so not everyone needs to keep this burden. Although Jonas received beautiful memories with a lot of colors and happiness he also felt grief, pain and anger.
Literary Analysis: The Giver Imagine a world where everything seems perfect but truly it is not as pleasant as it appears. In The Giver by Lois Lowry shows us a community in the future with no feelings at all. Jonas a twelve year old boy knows his life as it is and one evening he learns the truth about the community. Jonas set’s off into a adventure to change it all. Character, conflict, and symbolism makes the reader see thru the eyes of a twelve year old in a place of slavery disguised without anyone knowing it.
Lois Lowry’s the Giver was published in 1993. It tells a story of the life of Jones who lives in a highly controlled community in the future. Considered as “dystopian literature”, the plot includes assigning children, release, social engineering and genetic engineering. Jones’ society sometimes reflects old China, which has some comparability. Both have extensive government control and less freedom to choose individually.
Nerely Bahena Alvarez Ms. Cunningham ENG102 7 April 2023 Girls in the Marines Intro- There are a great number of high school students who struggle with deciding their next steps after high school. When it comes to boys wondering what to do after, they are usually told to join the military, but when it comes to girls, military isn't the first alternative that they are told if they also don't have concrete plans after high school. This lack of encouragement is one of the many reasons the military, specifically the Marines, has a very low percentage of women. The Marines must meet certain criteria in order to attract high school girls into joining.
In The Giver, Lois Lowry shows her readers what it is like to live in a society with no diversity, no color, and no freedom. In this society, there is a twelve-year old boy, named Jonas, who finds the truth about life outside of his community. He does not have the option of choice, and he is stuck in a futuristic world of “sameness”. Jonas’ world is dull, and he wants to change it because it does not have the amazing features and opportunities that he learns about. In this story, Lois Lowry is warning her readers that too much conformity can lead to no freedom and no true happiness.
Lea Vilna-Santos Mrs. English, 7th September 1st, 2015 The Giver, by: Lois Lowry Log Entry 5: Chapters 9-10: Question 7: In chapters 9-10, Jonas realizes from reading the last rule in his list that allows him to lie, that what if what people say isn’t the truth, despite what everyone in his community learns about the importance of telling the truth. He was even chastised when he exaggerated as a Four. He said that he was starving, but he was only hungry. His teachers made sure he understood that even though it was an unintentional lie, it was still a lie because as long as he lives in their community he will never be starving so they didn’t want him to ever say anything like that again.

The theme to the story is overcoming obstacles because Jonas has to conquer many hardships throughout the novel.
Before college, in all honesty, I detested research. I was always intrigued by the various facts that I discovered through research, however, the actual process always seemed tedious to me. I believe in field experience, but as Conflict Analysis and Resolution majors, we learn that research is essential in every conflict we, as practitioners, will engage in. After freshmen year, I quickly learned to love researching. Honors 110 was not a difficult experience for me as I had recently completed a larger research project my senior year of high school.
