Free Will in Romeo and Juliet

An individual has the right to choose whatever path they want to pursue freely. Every action will have a consequence. It is up to the person to decide how they live it whether or not it is a reasonable choice or unethical. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the characters face various situations where they have to rely on their own free will to advance further into their different endings. When individuals face certain scenarios, they will use their free will to lead them on in their life rather than depend of fate to do the thinking for them.
In Act 1, scene 5, Romeo and his friends, Benvolio and Mercutio, find themselves attending the Capulet’s masquerade.Romeo, however is reluctant on the idea of experiencing a good time because of the sorrow he is feeling over the rejection from his previous love interest, Rosaline. Tybalt claims that he only wishes to harm Romeo for appearing at Capulet’s party, but Mercutio insists on fighting him. Romeo catches them in the act, and intervenes, causing Mercutio’s untimely demise as well as Tybalt’s. This results in Romeo getting banished. “O, I am fortune's fool!” (3.1.132) indicates that Romeo is a victim of fate after coming in between the the two’s quarrel. Romeo blames fate as being responsible for the death of the two. Not only was Romeo was in the wrong place at the wrong time, the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues restricted Romeo from telling Tybalt that he was married to his family memeber. However,fate is not the case here. If Mercutio chose to let Romeo fight his own battles with Tybalt, and Romeo did not choose to avenge Mercutio’s death, conflict between the boys would have ended differently and less
