“BANG!” Goes the 46th shot that just killed another American child or teen today. According to the Brady Campaign, a well known gun prevention group, each and every day 46 children and teens get shot in suicides, murders, and police intervention. Unfortunately, preventable acts of violence occur everyday and are unintentionally encouraged because of violence displayed through video games, songs, and movies. In result of the unintentional encouragement from outside sources, Americans have created a comfortable culture for violence to be glorified and outwardly bought and sold in outlets accessible to anyone. Games such as Call of Duty, Dead Space, Dead Rising, and Grand Theft Auto, are just a few of the long list of video games whose main objective is to kill. The main objective in Call of Duty is to kill the other army and continue moving on to different, more challenging battlefields. This game heightens players’ sense of anxiety throughout the game by pop out scares and the intensity of the audio and visual effects such as the loud gunshots and blood and gore. By killing others in this game, players are rewarded by moving on to the next level. Grand Theft Auto is another game that glorifies the criminal lifestyle. The player drives around in a stolen car and goes on killing sprees and participates in gang violence.
