Despite some people being in such drastic situations they still manage to show humanity in their actions. In the book “night” by Ellie Weisel. It talks about his life during the holocaust and what he had to go through while he was put in a concentration camp. Many of the inmates that Ellie Wiesel was in camp with had shown humanity in their own ways and actions despite being in such dangerous situations. And many of those actions could have impacted their survival.
An example of this is seen when Ellie, his father and other groups of people, had first come to the concentration camp. A former inmate of the camp had unbeknown to them he had saved Ellies and his fathers life without them knowing. As if they had used their actual age then they wouldn't have survived the first selection if they hadn't listened to the man's words. This could be seen in “NIGHT” by Ellie Wiesel, it states, “Hey, kid, how old are you?"The man interrogating me was an inmate. I could not see his face, but his voice was weary and warm. "Fifteen." "No. You're eighteen." "But I'm not," I said. "I'm fifteen." "Fool. Listen to what I say." Then he asked my father, who answered: "I'm fifty." "No." The man now sounded angry. "Not fifty. You're forty. Do you hear? Eighteen and forty."

This father had managed to get a piece of bread and was about to share it with his son. But the son started beating his father for the piece of bread. This is seen in “night” by elie wiesel, and it states “A shadow had lain down beside him. And this shadow threw itself over him. Stunned by the blows, the old man was crying: "Meir, my little Meir! Don't you recognize m e ... Y o u ' r e killing your father... I have bread...for you too ... for you too... " He collapsed. But his fist was still clutching a small crust.
