“Life is too short to be lived badly.” stated Marjane Satrapi. The quote relates to the graphic novel “Persepolis” by how Marjane and her family living environment was and how rough their country living style took place. In Satrapi’s book she describes how she grew up during the time of war in her country (Iran). She told her life story of how much harmful living she went through to what she had to do to live a better life. From the graphic novel the author uses rhetorical appeals, juxtaposition, and Symbolism to appeal to the readers.
To start off with, Marjane uses specific feelings to us readers so we can understand her troubled life story. On page (26) Marjane didn’t know her grandma was at her house and it was a big surprise for her. …show more content…

On the same page panel (7) back in the day grandma was extremely poor. She was doing everything in her way to make it with her kids. She faked cooking so her neighbors would think everything is all ok. The rhetorical appeal pathos is used because her grandma was so sad that she had to fake feeding her children so others wouldn’t think they were poor. On page (37) there is this boy that live next door to Mheri and she really likes him but she tells the boy a lie about her living style. She say she is Marjane’s dad daughter but she really not. It all hit the fans when Marji dad finds out about the letters she been writing. From the same page but panel (7) Mehri is upset that she is in a different social class to the man she really like. Them two will never be together because the country they lived in had to stay within their social class. The appeal that is used is pathos since Mheri is deeply upset over the boy next door because she can’t him over the different religion. On page (6) Marji is having deep thoughts about what she is wanting to do with her life. She is thinking on turning into a prophet or not. On this various page Marjane is stuck between wearing a veil and not wearing a veil. She was religious but their family was also modern. The juxtaposition is that the history of her family and which Marjane wants to be a prophet but it's either veil or no veil. She doesn’t know for sure what she wants to do. From page (18) the people was getting tired of the army so they started going after them with no remorse. All the parents were demonstrating. They were down with the king! On the same page panel (2-3) the soldiers and protesters both disagreed with the others’ beliefs. The war started, in which one army was shooting and the other was throwing rocks. There were weapons versus non weapons. On page (19) Marjane and her father were having a deep conversation about who choose the king of their country. Marji thought God chose him but he didn’t so her father told her the actual story. From the same page her father says that Marjane’s statement about God choosing the king wasn’t so correct but from the story he told God was with them during the process of finding the king.
