Anne Frank’s Maturity
In “The Diary of Anne Frank’ by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, Anne Frank is a young girl who shows significant maturity in Act One. Anne is faced with many challenges living in the Secret Annex. As Act One progresses, she understands the gravity of the situations they are in, and her maturity becomes more evident. At the beginning of Act One of “The Diary of Anne Frank”, Anne Frank is a high spirited and energetic teenage girl who is not always mindful of others in the small living space. Throughout the Act, Anne would do mean and annoying things to other people living there with her. For example, at one point, she took Peter’s clothes and put them on. Another example that shows Anne’s immaturity is that she would also be very rude and disrespectful to her mother. In addition Anne would also take Peter’s shoes and hide them. The author writes,”Peter [To Anne] Have you seen my shoes? Anne. [Innocently] Your shoes?”(Goodrich & Hackett 722). This shows that Anne is not very mature at this time and is childish. She is beginning to mature by being more polite and caring. For example, during Hanukkah, Anne got everyone presents. In scene three, Anne also offered her bed to Mr. Dussel when he came to hide with them. There are still things that make her less mature like when she gets scared in her dreams, she yells. The author states,”[Still in her nightmare] Save me! Save me! [She screams and screams…”(Goodrich & Hackett 734).This shows that Anne got scared and began to scream during her nightmare and was a bit childish.
