Good afternoon, my name is Torri Piekarski, and it's my pleasure to represent Maycomb County and to serve as a prosecutor in this case. The trial began Mayella Ewell lied under oath to the judge that Tom Robison had raped her. Mayella Ewell committed this crime because she knows that if she tells the truth, then her father would violently act upon her. So, she lied about telling the whole truth and nothing about the truth, so her dad wouldn’t do anything to her about telling the truth. They would just keep everything on the low down together.
Opening statement for Mayella Ewell Good afternoon, my name is Alex, and it is my pleasure to represent Maycomb County and to serve as a prosecutor in this important case. My theory of why Mayella Ewell lied in court is she thought she could get away with it because she is white and my reason for claiming guilt is because the Ewells and Tom's stories do not match up. On August 26, 1935, the defendant in this matter lied inside the courtroom under oath about what really happened on the evening of November 21st. On the evening of November 21st, 1934 “Mayella Ewell said that she invited Tom inside to bust up a chifferobe but she said he snuck up behind her and was taking advantage of her.

Good morning, my name is Holly Eksten and I'm more than excited to present the results of this trial against Mayella Ewell. This very important case involving Mayella Ewell and the court system is because Mayella lied in court under oath to save herself. I feel that Mayella Ewell lied under oath because she wanted to save her name and reputation. She lied under oath during the case of Mayella Ewell against Tom Robinson. In that case, she said Tom had raped her.
The verdict of the Tom Robinson case helps shine the light on the morality of the Maycomb community members. The Ewell family are seated on the lowest level of the society statues pyramid and rightly so. Bob Ewell punishes Mayella, his daughter, in a violent manner and blames Tom Robinson for raping her; this is an unethical and dirty accusation. “We don’t know, but there is circumstantial evidence to indicate that Mayella Ewell was beaten savagely by someone who led almost exclusively with his left. We do know in part what Mr. Ewell did:”(Lee 272).
To Kill a Mockingbird: In To Kill a Mockingbird there are plenty of lessons that you learn reading the book. The one I am going to talk to about is always being nice by seeing things from other’s point of view. There is a quote from the book “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view- until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”. This quote is saying be nice to everyone, because you don’t know what they’re going through. The quote was from Atticus.
Good afternoon, my name is Katlyn Gotvald, and it's my pleasure to represent Maycomb County and to serve as a prosecutor in this important case. On December 9, 1932, Mr. Bob Ewell was called to court to testify for his daughter Mayella Ewell. Miss Ewell accused a black man of rape. Both of the Ewells knew this man from walking by their house on the way to work. He lay on the stand under his oath.
During the trial of Tom Robinson many asked themselves, “Does Mayella Ewell deserve pity?” The answer to that question is this, Mayella Ewell does deserve pity. There are many ways that this is true but two of them are the face that she doesn’t have any friends and doesn’t truly understand the concept of friendship. The second being that her father depends on her to be the ‘mother’ to his many children and may be somewhat abusive. The whole city is in the courthouse to witness the trial of Tom Robinson.
To Kill a Mockingbird Writing Assignment Everybody wants power in Maycomb like Mayella Ewell. A searus trial was held between Mayella Ewell a white woman and a Tom Robinson a black who was guilty by a white judge. Because of her race ultimately makes her powerful. Do to her being poor it make people avoid talking to her.
It is quite obvious that Mayella Ewell lies when she is placed on the witness stand. It is clear that she is unable to tell the truth because she stutters and forgets what she is saying. Mayella states to the defense party, “'I don't recollect if he hit me. I mean yes I do, he hit me.'" (pg 185)
Do you know what it feels like to be powerless? A white nineteen year old woman named Mayella Ewell Falsely accuses a black man of raping her in Maycomb, Alabama, in the 1930’s, and is rendered powerless, due to being recessive in her social class, race, and gender. She does so in hopes of escaping her abusive father, and a chance to have a better life. Although Mayella is white, she has been shunned by African Americans and other white people. Mayella is a very young woman that does not own anything nice, nor clean, besides geranium flowers.
Why did Mayella Ewell Lie? In my opinion Mayella could have lied for many reasons. First, I think she lied because she wanted to protect her father. If people found out that her father was the one who raped her; Bob would be seen as a monster in the small town of Maycomb. Bob’s social ranking in the society could have depleted.
Today people take many things for granted and don’t realize that something like race and gender would make a difference in if you had any power in society. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Mayella Ewell is faced with many challenges based on her race, gender, and class. While in court Mayella is questioned about her side of the story due to her gender and class. The only advantage Mayella had was her race. If Tom Robinson wasn’t black the whole case would be different.
