Good afternoon, my name is Katlyn Gotvald, and it's my pleasure to represent Maycomb County and to serve as a prosecutor in this important case. On December 9, 1932, Mr. Bob Ewell was called to court to testify for his daughter Mayella Ewell. Miss Ewell accused a black man of rape. Both of the Ewells knew this man from walking by their house on the way to work. He lay on the stand under his oath. There is evidence that says that he was lying on the stand. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a classic you get what you get for lying. This occurred because he was so petty that he made his daughter accuse a man who was just trying to get to work and didn't want to cause any trouble. Members of the jury, the County will review the evidence against Bob Ewell, who wanted to get out of a crime that he committed so he lied to cover up what he did. He was so petty he let his daughter go through the pain of being shamed and exposed to the whole country. On December 9, 1932, Bob Ewell was called to court and was under oath. He lied on the stand as there is evidence that shows that he was in fact lying. He knew that he was the one who hit his daughter and sent an innocent man to jail for the crime he committed. Lying under oath is already a very bad crime, but lying to hide the crime he committed is even worse. The results of Bob Ewell's actions hurt more people than you may realize. He made her daughter go through court, he lied to everyone around him, he used valuable government resources for this trait, and worse of all Tom Robinson lost his life and his wife had to go through the pain of hearing that she would never see her husband again.
